| Variety and the LED |
|
Variety has become a red LED beacon in the night. On December 10th, signage on the top of the North and South sides of their new 5900 Wilshire Blvd. location was illuminated to honor Variety's new home. Instead of neon often utilized in fabricating outdoor signage, the Variety sign is composed of roughly 1400 red mini LED lights and 15 power 60 watt supplies. The lighting operates at 7.5 amps, as opposed to the 64-70 amps a neon sign would require. In addition to reducing electrical output, the LED lighting also minimized the weight of the enormous letters (the V is 11'6" in height, the remaining letters are 8' in height), allowing for less emissions in the transportation and installation of the letters. The LED lights utilized in the signage were supplied by SloanLED.
