The Writers of Guild of America has approved its Pattern of
Demands, an outline of bargaining proposals for the upcoming negotiations with
the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers and major television
networks. Nearly 96% of participating members voted to approve the Pattern of
Demands, reflecting a historically high voter turnout.
The principal focus of the Pattern of Demands is new media—both the writing
of new material for the Internet, and reuse of motion pictures and television
programs on all such non-traditional platforms. In addition, the guilds seek to
expand their current jurisdiction in largely non-covered areas, such as reality
television, animation, game shows, and other non-fiction programming.
The guild’s current Minimum Basic Agreement expires on Oct. 31, 2007. Negotiations with the
companies are scheduled to begin on July 16.
