Members of the International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE
Local 600) Stills Action Committee (that is, the group representing the
interests of ICG stills photographers) have asked fellow members to refrain
from bringing their own cameras on-set to snap personal photos of the actors. In
a statement posted on the ICG site last month, the Stills Action Committee
highlighted the fact that unauthorized photography can interfere with the
ability of the hired photographer to do the job.
“The success of the still photographer capturing the
necessary performance moments during filming is directly connected to a
relationship of trust and understanding between the photographer, the crew and
the actors. Actors need to feel safe and protected in the knowledge that the
official set still photographer is the only person photographing them. And that
nothing will be released without proper authorization,” said the statement.
