Award-winning cinematographer and political firebrand Haskell Wexler has joined the race for presidency of the
International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600.) He is challenging incumbent Steven Poster
, who became president after Gary Dunham was voted out.
Wexler has pledged to foster solidarity with other
Hollywood unions, criticizing IATSE president Thomas Short for his opposition
toward the recent happenings at Writers Guild of America. Wexler is also
packaging his “Who Needs Sleep?”
documentary with his campaign
announcement, emphasizing his stance on the consequences of long work hours and
the sleep deprivation that crew members face.
