Idaho house representatives
voted 35-34 last month against a proposed increase in tax incentives, reports
the Idaho Statesman. The legislation would have allocated one million dollars to
provide a 20 percent rebate to productions shot in state.
The state already has a more modest tax break in place.
Backers touted the proposal as a boost to the local economy,
while opponents saw it as a play to
Hollywood that would benefit the
movie industry instead of investing the money in what they feel to be worthier
causes. Talk of Hollywood influence over the local
culture also boosted the opposition to luring the industry there.
