After months of negotiation, IATSE reached an agreement last
month for low budget productions in the United States
and Canada. The
agreement raises the budget cap for productions to meet the criteria as
low-budget and also raises wage and benefit increases for crew working on low
budget productions.
IATSE President Thomas Short, who when elected espoused
priority on low budget and independent film crew benefits, expressed
satisfaction with the contract. “I
am proud to have secured this historic agreement providing similar security to
the Canadian members as that afforded through this agreement to those in the
United States”
said Short.
