The American Society of Cinematographers will be presenting
Ron Howard with its Board of Governors Awards next month to honor his
contributions to the art of filmmaking.
"He has earned the admiration of our members for his
collaborative spirit and commitment to the art of visual storytelling," said
Russ Alsobrook, chairman of the ASC’s awards committee.
Although primarily for cinematographers, each year the
society recognizes those with eminent careers in film such as Francis Ford
Coppola, Jodie Foster and Gregory Peck. “We have reserved this award for
individuals from other sectors of the industry who share our passion for
filmmaking as a form of artistic expression,” says ASC President Daryn Okada.
The ASC will recognize Howard, an Oscar-winning director, writer and producer,
for his overall legacy as a filmmaker and production team player. “Ron Howard
brings out the best in everyone,” said Okada. “He has inspired countless
filmmakers to pursue their dreams and never compromises artistic
integrity.”
The award will be presented Feb. 18, at the Annual ASC
Outstanding Achievement Awards to be held at the Hyatt
Regency Century
Plaza in Los
Angeles.
