HD Experts on the Set: The Role of the DIT

On one of his first jobs as a digital imaging technician, Justin Bergeron (now CEO of HD Pictures & Post helped impress a commercial client who was hesitant to embrace HD technology. During the middle of the shoot, Bergeron overheard the client express dislike over the cyclorama’s color. The client was even considering interrupting the shoot and having it repainted, discussing with the assistant director the logistics and delays involved.

AFTRA, SAG Approve Contract Extension

Black Maria Entries Deadline

The Black Maria Film and Video Festival is currently accepting submissions through Nov. 24. The touring program accepts works by both emerging and established film and video makers in any genre. More information and an entry form can be found at www.blackmariafilmfestival.org.

Film LA Announces New Insurance Procedures

Los Angeles production liaison Film LA has announced that they will no longer coordinate city filming insurance and related matters. Instead, the City of Los Angeles Risk Manager will handle all insurance matters. Film LA will continue to process insurance for other Los Angeles County areas outside the city. Film Society at Lincoln Center Presents Hungarian Cinema: 50 Years After ’56

The Film Society at Lincoln Center will commemorate the ’56 Uprising by presenting three Hungarian film series. Remembering ’56 will highlight films about the Hungarian Uprising of 1956, A Tribute to Miklos Jansco will pay homage to the famed Hungarian director and New Cinema from Hungary will be dedicated to emerging Hungarian filmmakers. AFI Fest Continues Through Nov. 12

The American Film Institute is currently screening its annual film festival at Arclight Cinemas now through Nov. 12. AFI will also celebrate its 20 year anniversary, which includes its earlier incarnation as FILMEX, with events such as special screenings and the launch of a virtual museum. The festival also includes several gala events, including a tribute to actress Penelope Cruz. Screening times and information are available online at www.afifest.com.

IATSE Shows Support for Angelides

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees raised more than $75,000 for Phil Angelides’ campaign at a fundraiser early in October. More than 200 people attended the event honoring California’s Democratic candidate for Governor, including the alliance’s international president, Thomas C. Short. Short reiterated Angelides’ support for the entertainment industry while Angelides himself pledged to “support the motion picture industry’s below-the-line workers and maintain union and pension plans.” The event was held at the organization’s Local 80 headquarters in Burbank.
