Digital Casting Provides a Time-Saving Solution to the Demands for Quick Talent Searches

When casting director Felicia Fesano needed a Dutch actress for the HBO series “Sleeper Cell,” she had actors submit their own auditions through a process known as digital casting. Amsterdam Actress Thekla Reuten heard about the call through her manager in Los Angeles, and she e-mailed Fesano a tape of herself reading the sides.

The County of Los Angeles Fire Department has recently increased its “Fire Review Fees,” as well as the pay rates for their Fire Safety Officers, or FSO.

New York Cine & Digital Equipment Show

Members of the New York production community will convene while learning about cutting edge media technology at the New York Cine & Digital Equipment Show. The show, which will take place Oct. 10–11 at The Metropolitan Pavilion, will offer views of the latest cinema and digital equipment as well as seminars on how new technology affects how production is done. Exhibiters such as Arri, USA, J.L. Fisher and Panther Dollies and Cranes will display the latest equipment for film, video, HD cameras, lighting and sound. Seminars discussing technique will include a panel on HD workflow, a POV panel from the American Society of Cinematographers, and an Apple seminar on Final Cut Pro working with HD cameras.

Around Town

The American Film Institute has announced a new program that would facilitate exchange and collaboration among international filmmakers who are participating in this year’s AFI Fest. Project 20/20 is intended to promote cross cultural understanding and awareness whiled developing the filmmakers’ craft. Participants of Project 20/20 will be announced at AFI FEST 2006, to be held Nov. 1–12 in Hollywood, CA.

The project will include support from President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, The National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

“We are grateful for the opportunity afforded by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, the State Department and the National Endowment for the Arts. We are proud with AFI PROJECT: 20/20 to expand international exchanges and collaborations and enhance global understanding and communication among the world’s filmmakers,” said Jean Picker Firstenberg, AFI’s President and CEO in a release last month.
