The Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences announced last month the
addition of two new members to its Science and Technology Council.
Mark Kimball and Rick Sayre, both industry veterans and
Academy Award winners, have accepted invitations to join the group. Kimball is
currently the director of digital production at
Walt Disney, and Sayre is the supervising technical director at Pixar.
Kimball, shared a Scientific and Engineering Award in 1991
for the design and development of the Computer Animation Production System, or
CAPS, which facilitated the production of
feature film animation. In 1996 Sayre shared a Technical Achievement Award in
1996 for the Direct Input Device, a tool that was originally developed to help
traditional animators work on the Computer FX for "
Jurassic
Park."
