Washington
State will introduce a bill in
January that would start a fund to encourage local production. Because state
laws forbid favoring a specific industry, the fund would be paid for by hotels
and other businesses that stand to benefit from in-state shoots. It would
reimburse projects by 20% or up to one million dollars.
The state has been losing an increasing amount of production
to nearby states and
Canada, even
when the fictional locale is set inside
Washington. Members of the
industry feel they must compete with the incentives provided by these
geographically similar locations.
