According to the Los Angeles Times and a statement released
by the mayor’s office of Los
Angeles, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa made an announcement
at the end of October that would affect anyone shooting in government-owned buildings in
Los Angeles. His plan is to make
sure that the current filming fees, which totaled $187,000 for the last fiscal
year, to shoot in a government-owned building will be waived for production
projects in the future.
In light of the postponement of a recent bill to increase tax
incentives for production companies shooting in
California, Villaraigosa’s plan,
if approved by City Council and comes to fruition, would be a much-needed
boost to those in favor of bolstering the state’s economy through film and
television production.
