From oompa loompas to zombies, the folks at scanning services company Eyetronics have been busy helping create much of the character magic seen on screens this summer. Their latest scanner is capable of producing a full body scan in 90 seconds instead of the 20 to 30 minutes that is has normally taken. The result is fast and accurate 3D models with 4K textue and color data, ready for immediate integration in production pipelines.

The new scanning technology helped London-based visual effects company The Motion Picture Company create thousands of oompa loompas from the orginial scan of actor, Deep Roy for Tim Burton's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." In Batman Begins, actor Christian Bale was scanned in order to perfect his costumes and to create a digital double of the caped crusader. And, according to "Land of the Dead's" visual effects supervisor Jeff Campbell, Eyetronics' scanning process eliminated guess work and cut the amount of time it took to start animating the hoards of zombies.

Upcoming projects for Eyetronics include work on the films "The Brothers Grimm," "The Legend of Zorro" and "Dr. Dolittle 3."
