June marks the BETA launch of 411’s Wireless service. Users will now be
able to access information from the LA, New York and High Def 411 sites through
Web-enabled phones, with the same log-in information they currently use to
access the sites directly.
Publisher Kevin Davis spoke to us
about the new 411 Publishing Wireless product. Can you tell us a little bit about how the 411 Wireless service will work?
Kevin Davis: With the proliferation of trios, blackberries and other Web-enable portable devices, we have created a live Web site just for phone users. It allows those users to search across all 411 Publishing sites in order to access the most up-to-date information possible. Initially, during BETA testing, the service will be free. When we begin the actual service there will be an annual subscription fee of $49. We hope to role out the final launch sometime in September of this year.
What are the benefits of being able to access 411 listings through this wireless service?
Kevin Davis: For those in the field, on location, without access to a book or to a computer, the access this service provides through any phone with internet capabilities is extremely valuable. Wherever you are, listing information such as company and crew phone numbers and email addresses are at your fingertips. There is no downloading, no syncing, and no special software. Users access information directly from a live site in the time it takes to connect. This is about convenience and ease of use in the field.
How do you see the 411 wireless service evolving in the future?
Kevin Davis: In the future, we hope to be able to add additional directory resources such as regional film commission and permit office directories, among others, in order to increase the depth of listing information outside of what 411 offers directly.
