THIS ISSUE's SPOTLIGHT on:
"411 Publishing Advisory Board "
Issue 17
January 2005

Dear Valued 411 Community Member:

We are excited to announce that 2005 is the inaugural year of the 411 Publishing Advisory Board.

The goal of the Advisory Board will be to help make sure that each category and section within the Los Angeles and New York books are represented in a way that best serves the needs of the listees and the users, within the production community and beyond. We are also looking to these advisors to let us know about trends and concerns that relate specifically to below-the-line production.

We are asking our Update readers, book users and listees to nominate members of the below-the-line production community. From this group of candidates, we will then choose 15 advisors to make up the Advisory Board. During bi-annual meetings, these advisors will have a chance to make suggestions and impart their expertise in regard to how certain categories, sections and descriptions are presented.

After we have gathered the nominations, we will announce the final 15 members of the Advisory Board.

Thank you so much for your time and suggestions. We look forward to hearing from our readers about who they consider the most qualified candidates in all areas of production.

Final say on any category, section, general index, description change or amendment is always at the discretion of the Editorial Staff. Please note that due to issues of bias, you cannot nominate or vote for yourself.

Ogres, Sharks and a Family of Superheroes Sweep Annie Noms

In the Animation Industry, the Annie Awards are the oldest and considered by some as the most prestigious. They also, much like the Golden Globes, serve as an excellent tool for Oscar prognosticators.

The announcement of this year’s big contenders, however—Pixar Animation Studios with 16 nominations for “The Incredibles” and DreamWorks with 14 nominations for “Shrek 2” and “Shark Tale”—came as no surprise to those in the animated motion picture world and beyond.

From Underwear Commercials to Modern Art

Whether you need a set to stand in for an art gallery, a dungeon or a lingerie store, the 30,000 sq. ft. Entertainium Studios that recently opened in downtown Los Angeles has a place for you to shoot. In addition to standing sets, Entertainium’s motto seems to be “if we don’t have it, we can build it.” In addition to sets, Entertainium also offers production offices, ample parking, make-up and wardrobe facilities and a loading dock.

Indie Music Sells Product

Jamie Lamm, award-winning composer/producer and creator of Fearless Music TV—a showcase for emerging and groundbreaking indie-rock bands—is also the pioneer behind Fearless Music [the music house]. Combining cutting edge editing and sound equipment with cutting edge music, Lamm offers a full-service resource in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen where agencies can come to inject spot music with fresh life, and has revamped the entire structure of the music house and music television in order to take advantage of the enormous success his show has garnered in the past year. “We know that indie-music resonates with today’s television view, says Lamm. “Our role is to make it accessible and practical.”
